ICMM 2024 wrapped: the best of the Materials Science Institute of Madrid

The Institute of Materials Science of Madrid (ICMM-CSIC) concludes 2024 with a very good feeling. Three new ERC projects have been secured (two Synergy grants and one Proof of Concept) and an ERC Consolidator has been initiated, among other important projects. Additionally, five papers have been published in the journal Nature throughout the year, and several awards and recognitions have been received. Here follows a summary of the most important points.

The ICMM gets 2 ERC Synergy Grants to develop the electronics for the future

Mar García-Hernández and Andrés Castellanos-Gómez will use their experience in two-dimensional materials on two international projects worth 10 and 14 million euros, respectively. García-Hernández's project proposes a revolution in electronics, creating a novel metamaterials platform that opens the door to new devices with lower energy consumption (and also quantum devices at room temperature); while Castellanos will develop ultra-thin and flexible electronics that can be integrated into rough or curved surfaces, such as skin or other biological structures.
