SBAN 23

The VI Spanish Conference on Biomedical Applications of Nanomaterials took place on September, 28th and 29th, at the Materials Science Institute of Madrid (ICMM-CSIC). During two days, around one hundred of people gathered to discuss the latest research in the field of nanomedicine.

This event is "a unique opportunity for discussing" in this field, explains Puerto Morales, ICMM-CSIC researcher and one of the organizers of the event. "The conference covered the main aspects of this field by leading researchers working in Spain and abroad", she adds.

SBAN had a broad audience composed of researchers with different backgrounds, from chemistry and biology to engineering and medicine. The Local Committee was formed by Ana González Paredes (Instituto de Química Médica, CSIC), Jesús Ovejero (ICMM-CSIC), Helena Gavilán (Universidad Complutense de Madrid), and Ana Espinosa, from the Materials Science Institute of Madrid. The Conference Chairs were: Fernando Herranz (Instituto de Química Médica), Puerto Morales (ICMM-CSIC), Lucía Gutiérrez (Instituto de Nanociencia y Materiales de Aragón), and  Gorka Salas (IMDEA Nanociencia).

Between the plenary lectures, SBAN gathered highly recognized researchers as Amalia Ruiz (University of Bradford), Natividad Gálvez (Universidad de Granada), Valle Palomo (IMDEA Nanociencia), Alexandra Avgustinova (Sant Joan de Déu Institut de Recerca), Marta Costés-Canteli (IIS-Fundación Jiménes Díaz y CNIC), Erwing Ximendes (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid), and Javier Reguera (BC Materials).

At the end of the two-day meeting, the organizers gave the best thesis awards from last year: First Prize was for Nuria Lafuente, while Carlota Tosat and Elisa Lenzi gave an award mention. All the organizers and attendees concluded the event with satisfaction and, of course, waiting for next year's edition.
