ABSTRACT: In this talk, I will present the structure-based design of superionic conductors, their experimental demonstration, and the elucidation of ion-diffusion mechanisms. I will report the exceptionally high proton conductivity and chemical stability of novel oxides (e.g., 10 mS cm⁻¹ at 235 °C in the BaSc0.8W0.2O2.8 perovskite). I will also present novel oxychlorides and oxides exhibiting high oxide-ion conductivity and high chemical stability (e.g., 10 mS cm⁻¹ at 413 °C in the Sillén phase Bi1.9Te0.1LuO4.05Cl).
