She comes from Asturias and started her journey at the Material Science Institute of Madrid in October 2023 as a Master student, but now she is a researcher at the MamBIO group thanks to a JAE Intro ICO fellowship granted by the Nanomedicine Hub From CSIC. She is Andrea Ferreras, a researcher from Asturias, although she has studied her degree in Universidad Carlos II de Madrid.
What have you worked on so far?
As undergraduate student, I worked at the Bioengineering Department of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, under the supervisión of Crisinta Martín Jiménez. The research project in which I participated was devoted to the use of graphene-based materials for the design of antibacterial scaffolds to be used as skin dressings for wound healing and infection treatment.
What will you work on? With whom?
I will be working with Dr. Puerto Morales, Dr. Conchi Serrano and their group in the design of neuroactive nanocarriers based on iron oxide nanoparticles for immunomodulation and neuroregeneration in spinal cord injuries.
Why did you choose ICMM?
I chose ICMM due to the innovative and international investigation groups in here, with groudbreaking ideas and very interesting proposals. Moreover, ICMM will enormoulsy increase my experience in investigation and knowledge in the material science field.
And a personal touch: any hobbies? What would you like to contribute to the institute?
What I enjoy the most is travelling around the world. With my incoporation, I would like to contribute to the development of novel treatments for neural diseases.
