Ángela Matarín Serrano is from Leganés (Madrid). She studied Chemistry at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) and then did a master's degree in Applied Chemistry with a specialization in Molecular and Materials Chemistry, at UAM too. Last year she started her PhD in the Multifunctional and Supramolecular Materials group with Eva Maya and now, after a little break, she is back at the ICMM
What have you worked on so far?
Since 2022 I've been working here in the institute, together with the Susplast platform, which focuses on sustainable plastics. Therefore, my work has consisted of synthesizing and characterizing materials used as catalysts for the chemical valorization of plastics.
What will you work on? With whom?
In this second year of my PhD, I will continue working with Eva, but this time, in collaboration with the Institute of Catalysis and Petrochemistry (ICP-CSIC). The work will continue in the dynamic of obtaining high-value products but with a more industry-oriented approach.
Why did you choose ICMM?
In 2019 I did my degree internships at ICMM. I felt so comfortable in the group that I decided to do my final degree and master's thesis with them. Being able to work in a multidisciplinary group and being in such a pleasant environment, made me choose ICMM to do my thesis.
And a personal touch: any hobbies? What would you like to contribute to the institute?
I really enjoy watching series, listening to music and spending time with my friends. I also like a lot doing puzzles and playing cards and board games. I would like to bring a good working environment to the institute. It would also be interesting to help in outreach activities so that the little ones (and not so little ones too) can learn about the world of science and teach what we do every day in the lab.
