News at ICMM

  1. ICMM host 5th Spanish Conference on Biomedical Applications of Nanomaterials (SBAN)

More than 80 researchers congregate at ICMM between the 8th and 9th of September to discuss research and progress in the field of Nanomedicine.
  2. Wenliang Zhang defends his PhD Thesis at ICMM: "We could facilitate the construction of low-cost and disposable paper-based electronic devices"

The student has been studying with Andrés Castellanos at 2D Foundry Group. His work is focused on the development of paper-based devices.
  3. The postgraduate course 'Photoelectron and Auger Electron Spectroscopy (XPS and AES)' begins at ICMM

Isabel Montero Herrero once again directs this course for people with a Bachelor's or Degree in Physics, Chemistry, Architecture or Engineering.
  4. Víctor García Gisbert defends his PhD Thesis at ICMM: "We've proved our microscope can measure stuff that were not possible before"

September is college's new year, but some people are ending their season. That is the case of Víctor García Gisbert, who is defending his Ph.D. thesis 'High Spatial Resolution Nanomechanical Mapping of Materials: From Proteins to Magnetic Media' at Materials Science Institute of Madrid (ICMM-CSIC) on 1st September. The show will be at 4 pm (Spanish peninsular time). It can be watched via zoom.

  5. ICMM's Stardust machine receives its second European users thanks to the NFFA project

Mario Accolla, from The Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF) in Italy, and Alejandra Traspas and Jin Zhang, from Queen Mary University in London, will produce silicon oxide nanoparticles in our unique machine.
  6. A geometric pattern helps to reduce vibrations at nanostructures

At nanoscale, small solid objects are "very sensitive to vibrations generated by thermal energy". This is a problem in the field of technology
  7. ICMM's Pilar López-Sancho, awarded with Winter 2021 EPS Emmy Noether Distinction for Women in Physics

The European Physical Society highlights her contributions to the electronic structure of low-dimensional materials and her actions for the empowerment of women in physics. The diploma is given this Monday, November 21, at ICMM.
  8. José Ángel Martín Gago, new ICMM’s director: Jesús Ricote and Pilar Aranda are his new deputy directors

Gago is a research professor at interdisciplinary studies based on nanoscopic systems (ESISNA), Aranda is a research scientist in nanostructured hybrid, biohybrid, and porous materials group and Ricote is a tenured scientist specializing in electroactive oxides for smart devices.
  9. Iron oxide and iron oxyhydroxide nanoparticles impair SARS-CoV-2 infection of cultured cells

Iron oxide and iron oxyhydroxide nanoparticles impair SARS-CoV-2 infection of cultured cells
  10. Ten student will research at the ICMM this summer with JAEINtro Scholarships

They will work with prestigious ICMM researchers during three months so they are testing whether the scientific research is for them or not.
