María Echaniz

María Echaniz Cintora comes from Pamplona (Navarra, Spain), where she studied Chemistry in the Universitiy of Navarra. Now is joining the Material Science Institute of Madrid and working at the Electroactive Oxides for Smart Devices Group.

What have you worked on so far?

Last year, I completed my master’s degree in Nanophysics and Advanced Materials at the Complutense University of Madrid. For my final master’s project, conducted here at the ICMM, I focused on the use of sonochemistry for the low-temperature solution processing of ferroelectric BiFeO3 thin films.

What will you work on? With whom?

Thanks to an FPU scholarship, I will continue working on low-temperature solution processing of ferroelectric thin films during my thesis, under the supervision of Lourdes Calzada, Íñigo Bretos, and Rafael Sirera.

Why did you choose ICMM?

I learned about the ICMM when Rafael Sirera, one of my teachers at the University of Navarra,  told me about it. Through the JAEIntro-ICU program, I could experience an introduction to what a research career entails. It was such a positive experience that I didn’t hesitate to pursue both my master’s project and PhD at ICMM. I really like the facilities, the people, the working environment, and the opportunities it gives for collaborating with different researchers.

And a personal touch: any hobbies? What would you like to contribute to the institute?

I enjoy reading a good adventure, sci-fi or fantasy book and sport is also an essential part of my life. I have been riding horses since I was 5 years old and I am currently interested in horse endurance training. Plus, the gym is a must-have in daily routine.

I am eager to contribute to the institute with a collaborative learning environment where I can share and learn knowledge and insights with other researchers.
