A chemist who switched to technology transfer, Laura Redondo is our new Knowledge Transfer Manager at the ICMM, effective from 23rd September. She aims to help ensure that the knowledge generated by our researchers is applied in industry... but also wants to travel around the world, as she told us.
Where do you come from?
I grew up in Collado Villalba, a very beautiful village close to the mountains. However, my family comes from León and Segovia. I spent a year as an Erasmus student in Utrecht (The Netherlands). Besides that, I have always lived in Madrid.
What have you worked on so far?
I studied a bachelor degree in Chemistry and then a master in Organic Chemistry. My first job was at the pharmaceutical industry in synthesis and then I switched to technology transfer. I worked for a couple of years at the Deputy Vice-Presidency for Knowledge Transfer of CSIC and then moved to the Spanish National Center for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC).
What will you work on? With whom?
I will be working in knowledge/technology transfer. My role is to help identify results that could potentially become new/improved products in the future, protect those inventions with the corresponding Intellectual Property rights and explore new collaborations with companies.
Why ICMM?
I consider the research done here has a lot of potential to be transferred to the industry and I would like to help to achieve that. And why not, I always liked a new challenge.
And a personal touch: any hobbies? What would you like to contribute to the institute?
My main passion is traveling around the world. My personal list is still very long but I do my best to keep crossing out new destinations. I also like yoga, diving and painting.
