ICMM host 5th Spanish Conference on Biomedical Applications of Nanomaterials (SBAN)

The Materials Science Institute of Madrid (ICMM, in Spanish), CSIC, is hosting the 5th Spanish Conference on Biomedical Applications of Nanomaterials (SBAN). More than 80 researchers from all over the world are congregating at our centre to discuss research and progress in the field of Nanomedicine.

The conference covers the main aspects of this field by leading researchers working in Spain and abroad. SBAN, in fact, has a broad audience composed of researchers with different backgrounds, from chemistry and biology to engineering and medicine.

Research Professor M. Puerto Morales, lead of Materials for Medicine and Biotechnology Group at ICMM and one of the organizer team, explains that this event is distributed in three areas: talks, posters, and 'flashes' (5 minutes talks). Almos 40 researchers are presenting their works on biomedical applications of nanomaterials.

SBAN Conference is divided in themed fields: drug delivery, nanomaterials aplications in neural diseases, cancer, hyperthermia and other applications. There are seven plenary lectures: María Mittelbrunn (CBM - CSIC), María Moros (INMA, Zaragoza), Lourdes Basabe (UPV/EHU), Verónica Salgueiriño (University of Vigo), Mónica Carril (UPV, EHU), Eduardo Oliver (CNIC/CIB) and Oihane Ibarrola (Bioreralty Research Institute, AEI).

Mittelbrunn's conference is titled 'How does the time-dependent deterioration of T cells contribute to tissue senescence?'; Moros's one is 'Design of nanoactuators for tissue regeneration'; Basabe is speaking about 'Microchips for analysis of fluids and biological systems'; Salgueiriño is talking about 'The key role of the surface topography and biofunctionalization of magnetic nanoparticles in biological media'; Oliver's talk is called 'New diagnostic and therapeutic targets in murine models of cardiopulmonary disease', while Ibarrola's title is 'Magnetic nanoparticles upscaling for early clinical phases multimodal cancer therapy'. 'Fluorinated nanoparticles for 19F MRI and as reporters for protein corona' will be the last conference, hold by Mónica Carril. Finally, ICMM's Morales is in charge of the Closing remarks on Friday 9th September.

The Congress is organized by Instituto de Química Médica (IQM), ICMM-CSIC, Instituto de Nanociencia y Materiales de Aragón-Universidad de Zaragoza and Imdea Nanociencia. It will last between 8th and 9th September.
