The Materials Science Institute of Madrid, ICMM, has been recognized by the National Research Council with the ASPIRA-CSIC Sagrario Martínez Carrera Distinction in its second call. This is a key CSIC project to promote scientific excellence in the institution's centers. "This project represents support for the actions that we have started to enhance the scientific excellence of the ICMM," celebrates José Ángel Martín Gago, research professor at the CSIC and current director of the center.

The achievement has a financial allocation of 300,000 euros destined to implement key aspects of the center's excellence plan. Specifically, this money will be used to consolidate equipment and facilities, to hire specialized technical personnel, postdocs, and to implement specific actions in training, technology transfer, internationalization, and scientific dissemination.

"Using the funds from the MAX program, we are going to promote synergies to enhance both internal and international collaboration," highlighted Martín Gago, who also highlights, within his strategic plan, the initiatives to consolidate or create transversal technological platforms, such as the AI-Lab or the 'proof of Concept (PoC)' laboratory.

In this project phase, another 28 CSIC centers have obtained the ASPIRA-CSIC Sagrario Martínez Carrera distinction, allowing them to move on to the next part of the program. To obtain this distinction, the centers had to present a Center Scientific Project and design an Excellence Plan based on the self-assessment questionnaire they completed to join phase I of the program.

The CSIC explains that, in the evaluation of the scientific project, the aspects assessed were: the state of the art of the topics, the capacity of the centre to carry it out, the identification of mechanisms that promote the coordination of lines of research and internal synergies, strategies aimed at increasing international scientific leadership, those aimed at promoting collaboration, those aimed at increasing the transfer of knowledge or promoting scientific, social and economic impact.conocimiento a la excelencia científica otorgado por la presidencia del CSIC.
