Tayfun Kutlu

Tayfun Kutlu is a PhD researcher who comes from Turkey and he has joined the 2D Foundry group last  October. He is a big fan of football and basketball, and especially a supporter of Fenerbahçe.

Where do you come from?

I was born and raised in Turkey. I got my Masters degree from Izmir Institute of Technology.

What have you worked on so far?
In my master I was doing computational physics based on density functional theory.

What will you work on? With whom?
During my PhD, I will deepen my work on two-dimensional materials under the supervision of Andrés Castellanos-Gomez. My research will center on uncovering new physical phenomena in atomically thin systems and translating these insights into emerging technological concepts. I aim to combine fundamental studies with the design and prototyping of innovative devices, ultimately working toward accessible, high-impact technologies built upon the distinctive capabilities of 2D materials.

Why ICMM?
The research direction of the 2D Foundry Group matches perfectly with what I want to work on during my PhD. The group has experience with the techniques and materials that interest me, so I believe I can both learn a lot and also contribute effectively. That alignment is the main reason I see ICMM as the right place for my doctoral research.

And a personal touch: any hobbies? What would you like to contribute to the institute?
I love football and basketball, I am huge Fenerbahçe fan. Also I like travelling, music, video games, movies etc. I can say that I am trying to enjoy from everything.
