ANGEL GIMENEZ MASCARELL

The Photonic Crystal Group has a new member: Ángel Giménez Mascarell just joined the team as a new PhD researcher. He is from Loeches, a small town near Madrid. He graduated in physics from the Complutense University of Madrid where I he also earned a master's degree in Nanoscience and advanced materials. "The summer between the degree and the master I also did a research internship at Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) in the photonic systems research group", he adds.

What will you work on? With whom?

I will work with materials that exhibit radiative cooling and energy harvesting properties with Pedro David García, Sara Núñez and Jorge Burgos. The aim of the project is to combine both properties, use different materials and to explore different geometries.

Why did you choose ICMM?

While I was studying the masters degree a professor invited David García and Cefe Lopez to give us a seminar which I found really interesting. Afterward I went to talk to them because I wanted to know more of their research line. They told me that there was an open call for a PhD position, and I applied for this position as fast as I could since I knew that the ICMM and this group is a exceptional place to learn and grow as a scientist.

And a personal touch: any hobbies? What would you like to contribute to the institute?

I really enjoy doing sports, specially climbing, going to the countryside and hiking. Also I like things like juggling music and reading. To the institute I would like to bring good vibes and a good work environment.
