News at ICMM

  1. ICMM starts its International Projects Office hiring Belén Illana

    Belén Illana
"ICMM is a prestigious center with very well-known researchers and appealing research lines. I think it is plenty of possibilities for the development of the internationalization plan of CSIC"
  2. Researchers achieve a key breakthrough in ultrafast physics by measuring the footprint of electrons in laser-illuminated crystals

    Attosegundos
ICMM-CSIC participates in an international project that, for the first time, has successfully measured a phase of electronic motion that will enable the control and creation of new quantum properties of materials. This work is part of the study of attosecond physics, a line of research that earned the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physics for scientists Pierre Agostini, Ferenc Krausz, and Anne L’Huillier.
  3. ICMM gets two CSIC projects to study antimicrobial resistance and clean energy alongside private companies

    Laboratorio de Paco del Monte
In this initiative, scientific personnel propose solutions to current challenges presented by companies
  4. Alba Synchrotron directors visit the ICMM and meet researchers to strengthen ties of collaboration

    Alba visita ICMM
Caterina Biscari, Alba Synchrotron's director, and Klaus Attenkofer, scientific Alba's director, visited the Material Science Insititute of Madrid (ICMM-CSIC) this week.

  6. The ICMM inaugurates the 'Synchrotron School' with the visit of five students to the Spline beamline at the ESRF in Grenoble

El ICMM inaugura la 'Escuela de Sincrotrón' con la visita de cinco estudiantes a la línea Spline del ESRF en Grenoble
These five predoctoral researchers received theoretical and practical classes on the experimental techniques available at the Spanish Spline beamline
  7. Researchers manage to monitor the local temperature of nanoparticles in tumor cells with X-rays

Logran monitorizar con rayos X la temperatura local de nanopartículas en células tumorales
Ana Espinosa, ICMM-CSIC researcher, leads a study exploring new universal nanothermometry in cells.
  8. '40 Years Watching Atoms', award of the Spanish Royal Society of Physics - Fundación BBVA

Entrega premios SREF - Fundacion BBVA
This is an initiative of the Materials Science Institute of Madrid and Micro and Nanotechnology, with the support of the CSIC Delegation in Madrid.
  9. ICMM Days: science and team-building in Buitrago del Lozoya

    ICMM Days 2023
On October, 2023, the Material Science Institute of Madrid (ICMM-CSIC) celebrated its I edition of ICMM Days, a 2-day meeting to get to know each other better for all the personnel that makes ICMM a good place to work.
  10. Stardust, the machine that recreates the death of stars and is used in nanotechnology

Stardust, la máquina que recrea la muerte de estrellas y se usa en nanotecnología
Ten years ago, three research groups joined forces to create the incredible, to witness death giving birth to life, and thanks to that, they have defied laws of astrophysics.
