VERONICA RAMIREZ MARTIN-SALAS

There is another journalist at the Materials Science Institute of Madrid. Verónica Ramírez joins our Communication and Outreach Office as a new technician. She is from Madrid and brings her experience in some of the most important media outlets in Spain.

Where do you come from?

I was born in Madrid, but I grew up in Getafe, a small city in the south of the capital. My parents, as thousands of citizens in the 60's and 70's, emigrated to Madrid from villages of Toledo and Badajoz, so I have always felt very close to these provinces too. That's why, as our colleague María González (Project Manager of Severo Ochoa) said, I also have an Extremaduran soul, the origin of my father and where I spent the summers of my childhood.

What have you worked on so Far?

In my professional career, I have been fortunate enough to work in various fields and media, such as La Sexta, El Mundo and El Confidencial.

In the first stage, I worked in environmental and scientific reporting after specializing in Science Journalism. Later on, I studied a Master's degree in Investigative, Data, and Visualization journalism, which let me explore new professional areas. In the last seven years, I have worked in the digital area of the Spanish TV laSexta.

What will you work on? With whom?

I will be part of the Communication and Outreach team with Angela Bonachera; we have the passionate mission of contributing to the visibility of the ICMM and implementing the outreach programme at events such as Science Week and The European Researchers' Night, or managing the center's schedule of outreach talks to update scientific culture indicators, among others.

Why ICMM?

I have always been interested in science and that is the reason why I studied a specialization in Science Communication after my degree. Besides, I have followed ICMM for a long time and I love its approach to outreach: it's very important to explain to the world about everything that is done here!

And a personal touch: any hobbies? What would you like to contribute to the institute?

I love spending time with my friends and family, and I enjoy going out in nature for a walk or biking. At home, I like reading or watching movies when the kids let me... About my contribution to the institute, I love team working and creating a kind atmosphere with my colleagues.
