Alexander Misol Gallego

Alexander Misol Gallego is a new member of the  Nanostructured Hybrid, Biohybrid and Porous Materials Group, headed by Pilar Aranda. He is an 'occasional artist' from Zamora. Meet him here:

Where Do you come from?

I graduated in Chemistry at the University of Salamanca (Spain) in 2014. After completing the Master in Synthetic and Industrial Chemistry at the University of the Basque Country, I decided to continue my scientific career doing my PhD at the University of Salamanca under the supervision of Vicente Rives and Francisco Martín Labajos. Finally, in September 2022 I defended my doctoral thesis on the study of inorganic nanofillers prepared from LDHs to obtain polymer matrix nanocomposites, which was awarded the best thesis of the RSEQ in the Salamanca territorial section. After that, I worked for several months as a researcher at the Instituto Tecnologico de Castilla y León on projects related to H2 as an energy vector.

What have you worked on so far?

I have been working on the preparation of inorganic nanomaterials from LDHs that can be used as nanofillers in the preparation of polymer matrix nanocomposites or as catalyst precursors in the CO2 hydrogenation reaction. I have also worked briefly on the production of green H2 by electrolysis of water using renewable energy sources.

What will you work on? With whom?

In the group, I will work together with Pilar Aranda and Margarita Darder on the study of hybrid materials as controlled drug delivery systems.

Why Did you choose ICMM?

The ICMM is an excellent place to improve my scientific skills and develop myself in my post-doctoral stage, with a working environment and facilities that allow high-quality research to be carried out.

And a personal touch: any hobbies? What would you like to contribute to the institute?

One of my biggest hobbies is CrossFit, I train several days a week and recently participated for the first time in a competition. Another of my great passions is painting; in my free time, I love oil painting.  However, I also have other hobbies, such as reading, dancing and spending time with my friends. At the institute, I would like to contribute to a comfortable and pleasant working environment in which collaborative learning can take place.
