The Material Science Institute of Madrid (ICMM-CSIC) is launching the 1st Scientific Images Competition in Materials Science, Matterimages.
What is considered a scientific image?
Images taken in laboratories or workplaces that show elements, processes, or results of materials science research related to the ICMM. This includes images taken by microscopy, spectroscopy, X-rays, or any other experimental technique. Paintings of any kind are not included.
Competition Dates:
From March 15 to June 15, 2026
Eligibility:
Staff of the Madrid Institute of Material Science during the competition period.
Participation Guidelines:
Images may be submitted individually or with a maximum of four co-authors. Each author may submit a maximum of three images. Only images in digital format will be accepted, and they must be accompanied by an original text that explains their scientific or technological significance, written in a clear and accessible style.

Categories:
1. Microphotography. For images in which the actual dimension of the photographed object is less than or equal to 1 mm and have been obtained using a microscopy instrument, diffraction techniques, or spectroscopic techniques.
2. General Photography. For images where the actual dimensions of the photographed object are greater than 1 mm
