Javier Gainza Martín works in the "Energy Conversion and Storage" group, under the supervision of Prof. J.A. Alonso, currently in the last stage of his doctoral thesis. In recent years, his main research topic has been thermoelectric materials, such as GeTe, SnSe or CoSb3 skutterudites. He has extensive experience in high pressure synthesis as well as materials characterization. Throughout these years he has been directly involved in the study of the structural properties of the synthesized materials, using X-ray diffraction techniques (both synchrotron and laboratory X-rays) and neutron diffraction techniques, as well as in the measurement and analysis of their thermoelectric properties.

Author of more than 17 articles in indexed journals and a book chapter, he was awarded the "Graduate Student Award" in 2021 by the International Thermoelectric Society (ITS). In 2021, he carried out a research stay at the "University of Texas at Austin", in the laboratory of Prof. John B. Goodenough, Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2019
