TITLE: My Escape From the Lab: A Career in Scientific Publishing
AUTHOR: Matteo Cavalleri, Editor in Chief of Advanced Intelligent Discovery
INVITED BY: Eduardo Hernández Chambers, ICMM
WHEN: July, 8 at 12PM
WHERE: Salón de Actos, ICMM
ABSTRACT: For most STEM Ph.D.s, a faculty position is not the road less traveled; it is the road that does not exist. In this talk, I share my own departure from a computational chemistry lab to the editorial offices of academic journals, and what I found on the other side of the submission portal: a career that keeps you inside scientific discourse, closer to it in some ways than the lab, and one with real room to grow. We map the editorial landscape together, from commercial publishers to learned societies, from triaging manuscripts and recruiting editors to shaping journal strategy, and consider the skills that carry from a graduate degree into a publishing career more directly than most training programs acknowledge.
The talk will be in English; questions and discussion are very welcome in Spanish.
He will first have a meeting with those researchers who are interested in publishing in this journal in the Sala de Juntas from 11:00-12:00.
