CELIA HERRERA

Celia Herrera Cadenas is joining the ESISNA (Estudios Interdisciplinares basados en Sistemas Nanoscópicos) group at the Materials Science Institute of Madrid (ICMM-CSIC) as a research assistant with the Stardust equipment. She has just finished her bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM).

What have you worked on so far?

This is my first experience working in a laboratory unrelated to university projects. During my final bachelor’s project, I have been focused on the development of laser-induced graphene sensors at the Institute for Optoelectronic Systems and Microtechnology (ISOM) laboratory.

What will you work on? With whom?

I will be working with José Ángel Martín Gago, Gonzalo Santoro Domingo, and Guillermo Tajuela Castilla, who are part of the ESISNA group. My responsibility is to monitor and manage the ultra-high vacuum Stardust equipment and help with the different experiments and investigations taking place in the laboratory.

Why did you choose ICMM?

ICMM is a prominent and well-qualified investigation centre that can allow me to learn from skilled researchers and relevant projects in a wide range of scientific areas.

And a personal touch: any hobbies? What would you like to contribute to the institute?

I have been playing volleyball since I was a child. I also enjoy skiing during winter. I would like to contribute to ICMM with new ways and solution to face scientific problems.
