Anselmo del Prado Abellán arrived to the ICMM on last September to join, as a technician, the Chemical and Thermal Analysis Services lab, one of ten services that exist at the Scientific and Technical Services Unit of our institute. He is a very sporty colleague who likes climbing, hiking, and cycling in nature and brings a wide experience in polymer science.
What have you worked on so far?
I got my degree in Chemistry from the University of Salamanca in 2010. I did my PhD at the Polymer Science and Technology Institute (ICTP-CSIC), focus on the preparation and characterization of polymers for applications in biomedical and technological fields, supervised by Carlos Elvira, Helmut Reinecke and Alberto Gallardo.
After my PhD, I joined Christoph Weder’s group at the Adolphe Merkle Institute (Switzerland) in 2016 as a postdoctoral researcher, where my research was focused on the preparation of supramolecular polymers and phase segregated materials.
I moved to the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 2018, where I expanded my expertise in supramolecular chemistry in David González group. In 2021, I returned to the Institute of Polymer Science and Technology as the lab manager for SUSPLAST, the Interdisciplinary Platform for Sustainable Plastics towards a Circular Economy in CSIC, a role I held until 2025, when I secured a permanent position at the ICMM.
What will you work on? With whom?
Right now, I’m working at the ICMM as a technician in the Chemical and Thermal Analysis Services lab. I will also provide support in polymer science for various projects at the ICMM.
And a personal touch: any hobbies? What would you like to contribute to the institute?
I like to spend my free time with friends. Also I enjoy reading, climbing, hiking, and cycling in nature.
