Lei Hongmei, Science Counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Spain, visited this week the Materials Science Institute of Madrid (ICMM), part of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). The aim of the meeting was to explore opportunities for scientific collaboration in the field of materials science.
"The field of advanced materials represents a strategic area with great potential for joint development and mutual benefit," stated Wang Dong, Scientific Secretary of the Chinese Embassy in Spain. "We believe that ICMM-CSIC plays a key role in advanced materials research, and we are honored to exchange views on potential joint projects, researcher exchange programs, and other forms of scientific cooperation," he added.
The visit took place on May 16 at the ICMM facilities, where the center’s director, José Ángel Martín-Gago, together with researchers María Luisa Ferrer and Andrés Castellanos-Gomez, showcased to the Chinese embassy staff the capabilities of the work carried out at the institute. Belén Illana, Head of the Internationalization Unit of the center, was also present at the meeting.
In addition to the presentation of ICMM-CSIC’s research lines and the cooperation channels proposed by China, the visiting delegation had the opportunity to tour some of the center’s most cutting-edge laboratories, including the 2D Foundry group and the facilities of the group working on interdisciplinary studies based on nanoscopic systems.
"We hope this visit marks a turning point in our relations with China, a country with which we share more than twenty researchers and with which we are confident we can pursue a very fruitful path in materials science," said José Ángel Martín-Gago.
