Laura Rego

New talent researcher at the Materials Science Institute of Madri: Laura Rego Cabezas just joined the QUDYMA group as a La Caixa Postdoc Junior Leader Fellow. In her previous position, she was a postdoctoral researcher at IMDEA Nanoscience (Madrid). She was born in Ponferrada (León) and did her PhD at the University of Salamanca.

What have you worked on so far?

During my PhD, I theoretically studied the high-order harmonic generation driven by structured laser pulses in gases. In particular,  I focused on controlling the angular momentum of the emitted attosecond laser pulses. During my time as a postdoctoral researcher, I have worked on ultrafast molecular chirality and the interaction of intense x-ray/extreme-ultraviolet laser pulses with small molecules.

What will you work on? With whom?

I will work on the design of new methods for using structured laser pulses to investigate ultrafast chirality. I will work with Aude Rodríguez, a predoctoral researcher who is also joining the ICMM son, and with my international collaborators. I will also search for possible new collaborations within the QUDYMA group and within the ICMM in general.

Why did you choose ICMM?

I believe that working at ICMM is a great opportunity for me, since I think that such an interdisciplinary environment can stimulate new ideas and synergies and I am eager to learn about my collegues research. I was also especially motivated by the possibility of working at the QUDYMA group, as I find their research very interesting and powerfull, and part of the group works on ultrafast laser-matter interactions, which is the topic of my research.

And a personal touch: any hobbies? What would you like to contribute to the institute?

I enjoy doing sports, especially martial arts and hiking in the mountains. I also like reading and music. I would like to contribute to the institute with my passion for learning and creating new science.
