XINYU LIU

Xinyu Liu was born in Shanghai, China, and completed his degree in Chemistry, followed by a Master’s in Organic Chemistry, at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Now, he is joining the Multifunctional and Supramolecular Materials Group at ICMM, starting his journey as a PhD student for the next four years.

What have you worked on so far?

During my degree, I developed a special interest in organic synthesis and characterization, though my final project focused on X-ray spectroscopy. In my Master’s studies, I gained extensive knowledge of organic chemistry, diving deeply into boron chemistry for my Master’s thesis.

What will you work on? With whom?

During my PhD at ICMM, I will work on the design and synthesis of oligomers and polymers for applications in electronics and photocatalytic processes, under the guidance of Berta Gómez-Lor and Mohammad Afsar Uddin.

Why did you choose ICMM?

I first became familiar with ICMM during an internship as part of my degree, where I worked on conjugated organic materials. This experience sparked my interest in materials science and inspired me to pursue research in this field. ICMM’s renowned expertise in materials science and its interdisciplinary research environment make it the perfect place to develop my scientific career.

And a personal touch: any hobbies? What would you like to contribute to the institute?

Outside of research, I enjoy fishing, playing billiards, and gaming.
