Patricia Capitán Sánchez de la Nieta is the newest member of our Administrative Services: she joined the Materials Science Institute of Madrid at the beginning of December as a new public servant and now is part of the invoicing department alongside Elena Barreda.
What have you worked on so far?
Before becoming a civil servant, I worked for fifteen years at Banco Santander. I was the deputy manager of a branch in San Sebastián de los Reyes until one day I decided I needed a change in my life, and it was my husband who encouraged me to venture into the civil service.
What will you work on? With whom?
My position is within the Administration department, and I have been fortunate to have Elena as my billing colleague, who is the person teaching me. She is wonderful, and I feel very lucky. But the rest of my colleagues are amazing as well, and they have welcomed me so warmly—I’m absolutely delighted.
Did you choose ICMM? Why?
As a civil servant, when you apply for a position, you never know where you’ll end up, but I feel lucky that I’m here, which is fantastic because, in addition to having great colleagues, I’m fortunate to be close to home and my children’s school, which makes balancing family life much easier.
And a personal touch: hobbies? What would you like to contribute to the centre?
My biggest hobby is traveling. I love exploring new places and enjoying their people, culture, leisure activities, and gastronomy. I also enjoy going to the theater, concerts, and musicals, discovering the coolest restaurants in Madrid, and dancing with my friends. But my favorite hobby, without a doubt, is spending time with my family—anywhere, just spending time with my children and discussing the latest videos of their favorite YouTubers.
I hope to contribute a lot to the institute, both personally—by being a good team player, just as everyone has been with me from the very beginning—and professionally, by bringing my knowledge and experience to my role.
