Mauro Ramos, new JAE Intro at the Miguel Muñoz Rojo lab

Mauro Ramos Jimenez joined the Material Science Institute of Madrid (ICMM-CSIC) as a JAE Intro and no he is working at the Miguel Muñoz Lab. This young researcher is a Materials Engineer coming from the UCM. "I am currently enrolled to a master program at UNED, specifically in Advance Manufacturing Engineering which, being a distance modality one, will allow me to spend more time to dedicate to the research and, in addition, it gives to me an interesting multidisciplinary profile with a very broad materials background and, I am now learning a lot about manufacturing processes", he says.

What have you worked on so far?

Since summer of the 3rd year of the bachelor I have done a lot of internships in different companies. Firstly, I took an Intern position at INTA (Instituto Nacional de Técnica Aeroespacial) where I worked in different topics such as active heating polyurethane-based paintings, composite materials manufacturing for aircrafts and also at metallographic studies. Afterwards I started at my undergraduate internship period as an R&D engineer at Segula Technologies company, developing a laser cutting machine for carbon and glass fiber cut. Last but not least, I did a little intern period at Aciturri Engineering, manufacturing composite parts for aircrafts but after 2 months I took a very Good opportunity at Capgemini Engineering, working for Airbus as a structural engineer for 5 months before joining ICMM.

What will you work on? With whom?

My work is focused on synthesizing and fabricating electronic devices using new 2D transition metals carbides and nitrides collaborating with Miguel Muñoz Rojo.

Why did you choose ICMM?

After a year of structural materials work, I wanted to try functional materials which are very interesting to me, so I thought that ICMM was one of the best materials science researching institutes of Madrid. The facilities and researchers experience were the things that made this institute the best choice for me.

And a personal touch: any hobbies? What would you like to contribute to the institute?

Among my hobbies it is interesting to highlight climbing and calisthenics as my usual sports and the ones I spend most of my time practising.

I want to develop my potential as a researcher combining the ICMM researchers’ knowledge and facilities and my Materials Engineering background hoping to contribute to more efficient electronics and thermal management systems.
