The Madrid Institute of Material Science (ICMM-CSIC) has attended once again this year in ‘Science 4 Industry’, the leading international event that connects world-class research with the industry and capital needed to turn breakthroughs into market-ready solutions.
There, ICMM has presented its cutting-edge technologies, as the smart windows Innovaglass. These windows can adjust their transparency with just one touch. What makes different the technology developed at the ICMM is that reduces both the cost and the difficulty of manufacturing these devices, as tells David Levy, one of the ICMM-CSIC researchers chosen by the event organizers to showcase his technological development. Current technologies for smart windows use glass with expensive electrodes and liquid crystal; in this sense, Innovaglass approachs the arrival of smart windows in our homes.
Besides, Nanostine and Nanological, two of ICMM spin-offs, has been also present at the 4th edition of this event, that took place las 28-29th January at La Nave, Madrid. Nanostine focuses on the research, development, and commercialization of high–value-added nanoparticles and nanostructured coatings. Nanological, meanwhile, specializes in the design of pathogen identification devices. Led by Daniel Ramos, the company brings together a highly interdisciplinary team of physicists, biologists, data scientists, finance and business development experts and clinicians.
The ICMM projects was part of the 21 projects and prototypes presented by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) at this forum that offer innovative solutions to challenges in various sectors such as health, energy, the environment, new materials, digitalisation and food sustainability.
In this context, the ICMM had also the opportunity to hold several meetings with different experts and innovation companies to present its cutting-edge technologies and to attend in some of the interesting roundtables and events organised by Science 4 Industry.
CSIC has a catalogue containing more than a hundred innovative technologies. It has also launched the Converge open innovation hub and developed the first report on the scientific, social and economic impact of spin-offs companies that have emerged from the institution, as well as a catalogue detailing 78 companies created from the research activity of CSIC centres.
