Óscar Mateos is a new PhD researcher at the Material Science Institute of Madrid (ICMM-CSIC). He is from Torrejón de Ardoz (Madrid) and is now a member of SANDMAN, the Surface Science and Materials Nanocharacterization Group.
What have you worked on so far?
In the last year, I have worked under the supervision of Guilherme Vilhena on Molecular Dynamics simulations, using them to study thermal conductance in highly confined liquids. Specifically, how water conducts heat at the scale of a few thousands of molecules.
What will you work on? With whom?
I will be working with Guilherme, to continue studying confined liquids with Molecular Dynamics. We wish to expand our knowledge of water properties under confinement.
Why did you choose ICMM?
Material properties at the nanoscale are a field that has been the source of many exotic phenomena. The ICMM has exellent research groups on this topic, from which I can learn and keep improving as a researcher.
And a personal touch: any hobbies? What would you like to contribute to the institute?
I am slightly inclined towards sports, in particular basketball and padel. I have also been playing chess at club level for several years.
