She is from Guadalajara, Spain, and she studied Physics at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM). Now, Elvira Tornero Gasca is a new member of the 2D Foundry group at the Material Science Institute of Madrid (ICMM-CSIC) as a PhD researcher.
What have you worked on so far?
I graduated in Physics bachelor at UAM (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid). During my final degree project I worked in STM characterization of fundamental aspects of superconductor materials. Then I completed my master's studies about renewable energy at UAM (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid), where I studied thermal conduction for its application in energy efficiency
What will you work on? With whom?
My current research interest include micro- and nano-scale heat transport and thermal measurements of 2D materials with a frequency domain thermoreflectance system (FDTR). I'm going to be working with Miguel Muñoz Rojo.
Why did you choose ICMM?
I chose the ICMM because is a very cutting edge investigating centre with a lot of important and very talented researchers and scientists, which gives me a great opportunity for starting my science career.
And a personal touch: any hobbies? What would you like to contribute to the institute?
I would say that my main hobbies are cooking which helps me de-stress after a long day and fencing which I've been doing since I was 11 years old. I hope to contribute by bringing in new and fresh ideas.
