Projects management is a hard part of the scientist process, and the ICMM is strengthening its team in this area. Since February, Alberto Rodríguez Torres has joined the international projects team as technician. He will be working on the Adaptation project with Sara Núñez Sánchez (Supramolecular, Polymeric and Reticular Materials group) and the Thermo2deal project with Miguel Muñoz Rojo. Outside of work, he has a keen interest in culture and outdoor activities.
Where do you come from?
I was born in Getafe, a city just outside Madrid, but I currently live in Madrid city.
What have you worked on so far?
My professional career has followed a diverse trajectory and has undergone significant development. I initially pursued a career in the field of communication, having obtained a degree in Advertising and Public Relations from the Complutense University of Madrid. Subsequently, I discovered a strong vocation for the public sector, which has led me to work for the past four years in the management of grants and public procurement, specifically, working on projects funded through European funds at Biodiversity Foundation F.S.P and Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge.
What will you work on? With whom?
At ICMM, I will be working as an International Projects Manager, carrying out a range of responsibilities including financial monitoring and project management, overseeing financial reporting, providing technical support, managing timelines and deadlines, and supporting project dissemination activities.
I will be part of the International Projects Office, working with Belén Illana Calero and Lluís Cordon Barris, and specifically contributing to the ADAPTATION project with Sara Núñez Sánchez and the THERMO2DEAL project with Miguel Muñoz Rojo.
Why ICMM?
I think ICMM is one of the leading centers within CSIC, mainly because of the field it works in — materials science — which is especially important today. In the current geopolitical landscape, research in this area is not just relevant, but essential for technological progress and global development.
And a personal touch: any hobbies? What would you like to contribute to the institute?
As for me, I’m a curious person with a lot of interest in learning. I really enjoy cultural activities such as visiting museums and exhibitions, reading, and going to the theatre or concerts. I also love traveling whenever I can, and because of my background in the environmental sector, I especially enjoy spending time outdoors and doing activities in nature.
I would like to contribute to ICMM by sharing my experience and knowledge to support the area of science management, which is where I will be working, while also continuing to learn more about this very interesting field of research.
