Eva Céspedes received her PhD in Materials Physics from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain) in 2009. Her doctoral research at ICMM-CSIC focused on thin films for spintronics, where she developed strong expertise in physical vapor deposition (PVD) and structural, optical, and magnetic characterization techniques, including synchrotron-based methods.
Following her PhD, she held several postdoctoral positions in Spain and the United Kingdom, including ICMM, Keele University, and IMDEA Nanociencia. During this period, she worked on interdisciplinary topics ranging from solar energy materials to magnetic nanostructures for biomedical applications and permanent magnets. In 2018, she joined the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (IMB-CNM, CSIC) as a PVD process engineer, where she co-managed the metallization area.
In 2022, she returned to ICMM-CSIC, where she has been involved in the SQUID Magnetometry and Low Temperature Laboratory and in 2023 she obtained I3 Certification. Since 2025, she holds a permanent position as Technologist at ICMM. Apart from contributing to the development of the Magnetometry Service, she is coordinator of the Research Facility Unit. Her research and technological interests focus on thin films, magnetism and energy-related applications, including solar coatings and functional magnetic materials for biomedicine and energy systems. She has authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications, participated in numerous international projects and synchrotron experiments, and is co-inventor of two patents related to advanced coatings.
