The Material Science Institute of Madrid (ICMM-CSIC) hosted the Workshop of the Spanish Network on Spintronics on October, 3rd and 4th. The event congregated 85 researchers and was organized by the Spanish Network on Spintronics and coordinated by the ICMM's researcher Oksana Chubykalo-Fesenko, leader of the Group of Nanomagnetism and Magnetization Processes.
During the meeting, there were 31 talks, including 2 invited: Juan Sierra, from the Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia (Barcelona), and Miguel Romera, from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid. The event was a perfect place to discuss the current topics in spintronics, such as spintronics in 2D materials, neuromorphic computing, injection of spin currents, generation of orbital currents or three-dimensional nanomagnetic textures. For example, Agustina Asenjo, a researcher at the ICMM, presented recent results of the MFM lab 'Magneto thermoelectric effects in PMA multilayers'.
"All participants highlighted that the level of research in spintronics has grown a lot in recent years," said Chubykalo-Fesenko. As a conclusion, the coordinators also highlighted "the need to keep the network active and attract the attention of institutions towards increasing Spanish investment in spintronics as is happening in other countries".
