Dr. Eduardo R. Hernández has an established research career in the theory and simulation of Condensed Matter Physics and Materials Science systems, with a special interest in the use of simulation techniques such as molecular dynamics and density functional theory; he has recently started a new line of research that aims to employ Artificial Intelligence methods applied to the solving of problems in Materials Science. He is a UAM graduate, and obtained his Ph.D. under the supervision of Prof. C.R.A. Catlow at the Royal Institution of Great Britain and University College London. He has published around 100 articles that have been cited 8400 times; 20 of such articles have been cited 100 times or more; his H index currently stands at 37, and his i+10 at 62. He has published articles in journals such as Science, Nature Comm., Physical Review Letters, ACS Nano, Nanoletters, etc, and has co-authored several highly cited review articles. Thus far he has supervised four doctoral theses.

In 2008 he joined the editorial board of the European Physical Journal B as Assistant Editor, and since 2018 up to the present he is the Editor in Chief of the Condensed Matter section of the journal. He is an "Outstanding Referee" for the American Physical Society. He has participated in no fewer than 20 research projects, being leading researcher in about a quarter of them, and has participated in a large number of evaluation panels, both national and international.
