The Characterization of Materials Unit of the ICMM comprises 13 scientific and technical facilities and a team of 16 specialists working in them, counting with the additional help of 16 staff scientists. The Characterization Unit´s goal is to procure a fundamental tool for the research development in the areas of Physics, Chemistry, and Materials Science. Its fundamental task is to provide scientific and technical support to the research groups at the ICMM, Universities, and Companies requesting them.
The Characterization Unit was assembled in 2023 with the target of maximizing its impact and visibility, including specific actions towards the transfer of knowledge among public and private sectors, and the improvement of the quality of the analysis.
The different facilities count on instrumentation adapted to the latest technologies and in a continuous process of renovation as well as with highly qualified technical personnel. In addition to essential characterization tools, the Unit has some specialized instrumentation that is unique at national level, like the new Single Crystal Venture with 3 microsources, the high resolution SQUID MPMS-3 magnetometer, the pulsed Nuclear Magnetic Resonance AVANCE II for solids, and the Clean Room for Micro- and Nano-fabrication, providing to the Scientific and Technological community of last generation characterization tools.
