ICMM Staff by category

According to the ICMM personnel data by category as of June 2022, in all scales, the percentage of men is higher than that of women (being very close in the scale of tenured scientist and research professor). It is worth noting that in the scale of scientific research staff, the difference between men and women is the widest among all scales.

ICMM staff by category

The figures for women in lower strata have increased compared to 2021 (for instance, female PhD scientists in fixed-term positions represented only 14% in 2021, while in 2022 they constitute 38%). However, in regard to higher positions, the percentage has changed little.

Scientific present staff and activities

In this graph, where we can observe some of the scientific activities carried out at the ICMM, it can be noted that there is a significant difference in the participation of women and men as speakers in seminars and courses.

PhD Completed at ICMM

Despite the lower number of female scientists compared to males, their involvement in thesis supervision is almost equal in the period 2017-2021. This can also be more easily observed in the bar chart in Figure 4, where, as mentioned before, concerning theses conducted and supervised, over the years, fairly similar data have been achieved between male and female researchers.

Seminars at ICMM

The following graph illustrates how the number of male speakers is higher than that of female speakers, with a more pronounced disparity in the field of Theory. Nevertheless, in recent years, there has been increasing awareness regarding the pursuit of gender parity when selecting speakers for seminars and courses.

Proyectos

Regarding the obtained projects, women lead as Principal Investigators (IP) in a greater number of European and corporate projects. However, the funding secured by them is significantly lower, with the average funding per project led by women being lower across all project types compared to that of men.
