Dr. Bernd Wicklein's investigation at the ICMM is focused on Green Paper Materials with a circular emphasis concerning revalorization, synthesis, application and recycling. The prime objective of his research line is to tackle questions of sustainability and clean energy in agreement with the national and international Sustainable Development Goals. Therefore, the paper materials are assessed in diverse applications ranging from renewable energy generation, nanogenerators, paper electronics, sustainable insulation materials and environmental remediation. Finally, different end-of-life options are evaluated to close the materials loop. Dr. Wicklein co-authored 45 articles in JCR-indexed journals and 6 book chapters. Currently, he is leading a JIN project financed by the Spanish National Research Agency. He served as guest editors of special issues on hybrid and macroporous materials in Advanced Functional Materials and Journal of Materials Science. For his work on clay-supported lipid nanovectors he received the Martin Vivaldi Award 2015 by the European Clay Groups Association and the CSIC Distinction 2015.
