Rubén Fernández Jiménez joined the Material Science Institute of Madrid last year. He is a PhD researcher at the Growth and Properties of Heterostructures in the Nanoscale Group. Before that, he studied physics at Universidad Complutense de Madrid and completed his master’s degree in Nanophysics and Advanced Materials there. Afterward, he worked at CENIM-CSIC as a research assistant for one and a half years.
What have you worked on so far?
During my bachelor and master thesis, I performed a characterization of the optoelectronic properties of Gd and Nd doped ZnO. Subsequently, I worked in the corrosion group at CENIM, focusing on antibacterial coatings for aluminum.
What are you doing here? With whom?
I am working with Jesús González, Javier Palomares and David Navas on spin dynamics in magnetic textures. Our focus is on two main topics: first, the fabrication of a magnon-based logic gate by inducing a change in the spin wave phase; and second, the study of the dynamic properties of magnetic textures in synthetic antiferromagnets..
Why did you choose ICMM?
ICMM offers a wide range of opportunities to pursue a PhD, particularly due to its interdisciplinary work environment. Additionally, within the group I am part of, I have access to all the necessary tools and facilities to carry out my work in the best possible way
And a personal touch: any hobbies? What would you like to contribute to the institute?
I enjoy playing sports, especially judo, and listening to music. I also love traveling to discover the way of life and traditions of other places. I would like to contribute to the institute by helping my group achieve the proposed objectives and create a friendly working environment.
