Julia Hernández Ruiz

Julia Hernández Ruiz is the new PhD researcher of 2D Foundry and EOSMAD. She is from Madrid and studied physics in Universidad Complutense de Madrid, where she worked on electron microscopy in 2D materials for her bachelor thesis. Then she got a master's degree on photovoltaic energy, and her master's thesis was on the optoelectronic properties of recycled silicon.

What will you work on? With whom?

I will work with Carmen Munuera and Jesús Ricote on hybrid devices between 2D materials and multiferroic films. We will combine these two materials to study novel optoelectronic functionalities and try to integrate them in flexible substrates.

Why did you choose ICMM?

I visited ICMM a few months before joining and I really liked the facilities, but especially the work environment and the human aspect of ICMM. It is a place where I can learn a lot from different researchers and develop as a scientist.

And a personal touch: any hobbies? What would you like to contribute to the institute?

I love sports, specially tenis and fútbol (Atlético de Madrid). I also enjoy going to the cinema or theater and eating good food.
