José Miguel Lendínez, new PhD researcher at Nanomagnetisms and Magnetization Processes Group

New PhD researcher at Nanomagnetism and Magnetization Processes Group. He is José Miguel Lendínez, who studied both Physics and Maths at the UVA (Universidad de Madrid). After a Master's degree in Nanophysics and Advanced Materials at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, now he is starting his PhD in Condensed Matter Physics.

What have you worked on so far?

As a PhD student, I don’t have much previous experience. However, during the last two years of my studies, I have been collaborating with different research groups, mainly experimental, in the field of semiconductors, both at the UVA and UCM.

What will you work on? With whom?

I will work in the field of Ultrafast Spin Dynamics through the implementation of ab initio calculations (DFT), under the supervision of Silvia Gallego Queipo, and atomistic spin dynamics simulations (ASD), with Unai Atxitia Macizo as my mentor, both experts in the respective approaches. I will focus this study on novel two-dimensional materials.

Why Did you choose ICMM?

I chose ICMM because of the facilities available here and the opportunities it offers for both national and international collaborations. I got to know the ICMM during a postgraduate course (Fronteras de la Ciencia course) that was held here while I was pursuing my Master's degree. That is when I began looking for different projects to which I could contribute during my PhD.

And a personal touch: any hobbies? What would you like to contribute to the institute? 

As for my hobbies, I have a strong passion for sports, both activities focused on personal training and engaging in outdoor sports. Additionally, I am interested in science, extending beyond my specific field. Therefore, I would like to contribute to the institute by helping in outreach efforts as well as by promoting a comfortable and friendly work environment.
