José Luis del Olmo Naranjo

New PhD researcher at the Theory of Quantum Materials and Solid State Quantum Technologies group: José Luis del Olmo is starting his research Under the direction of Ramón Aguado and Rubén Seoane.

Where do you come from?

I am from Benidorm, Alicante, but I studied both my bachelor's and my master's degree at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM).

What have you worked on so far?

In my bachelor’s courses, I had the opportunity of joining ICMM twice as a student, to learn about qubit physics and twisted bilayer graphene. Furthermore I performed quantum transport experiments in hybrid systems and for my master’s thesis I searched for signatures of triplet superconductivity in uranium-based superconductors using STM.

What will you work on?

I will be working on theoretical understanding of semiconductor-superconductor systems based on quantum dots, focusing on aspects relevant to quantum technologies, such as coherence times.

Why did you choose ICMM?

my different stays at ICMM during my studies, as well as the quality of the researchers who are part of the center, made me believe that the best decision was to continue my studies and get my PhD here.

And a personal touch: any hobbies? What would you like to contribute to the institute?

As hobbies, I enjoy walking outdoors with my friends as well as sharing perspectives or ideas on any current topic or play board games with them. Personally, I would like my work here to contribute to meeting the group's goals and fostering a healthy working environment for everyone in the institute.
