Carlos Rejas, new PhD researcher on Nanomagnetism and Magnetization Processes

The Nanomagnetism and Magnetization Processes has a new member: Carlos Rejas, a new PhD student with Unai Atxitia Macizo. He has previously studied Physics at the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid and the Master's Degree in Condensed Matter Physics and Biological Systems, also from the UAM.

What have you worked on so far?

As a new PhD student, my experience as a researcher is limited to my Bachelor's Thesis, in which I did experimental studies of optical tweezers and high speed atomic force microscopy, and to my Master's Thesis, where I worked on a computational model about the unfolding processes of proteins using torsion angles.

What will you work on? With whom?

I will work on Ultrafast Spin Dynamics, with Unai Atxitia Macizo as my thesis's director and mentor, by doing atomistic spin dynamics simulations, focusing in two-dimensional magnetic materials.

Why did you choose ICMM?

I got to know the ICMM back when I was doing my Bachelor's Thesis, and I decided to choose it because of its facilities and because it is a leading centre in the field of new materials and condensed matter physics research.

And a personal touch: any hobbies? What would you like to contribute to the institute?

As for my hobbies, I really love video games and music (I have played the guitar for a long time). I also like reading books, (from sci-fi and fantasy, to philosophy and politics), and meeting new people. I would like to contribute by  trying to create a collaborative learning and working environment.
