The research work of Dr. Paqui López Fagúndez is currently focused on the study of the synthesis and characterization of new low-dimensional materials. Within this field, an important part deals with the on-surface synthesis of new materials (0D, 1D and 2D) on different types of substrates. In these investigations, a multi-technique strategy is followed with surface science methods (XPS, STM, LEED, synchrotron radiation techniques, ...) to characterize the new materials synthesized on surfaces and determine the mechanisms of the reactions that lead to their formation. The ongoing focus of her research involves the generation of functional materials for photocatalytic applications.
She is co-author of more than 100 international articles in indexed journals. Principal investigator of several national and regional projects as well as mobility projects "Salvador de Madariaga" and projects to carry out experiments in synchrotron radiation facilities. Supervisor of several PhD thesis, master's thesis and JAE-Intro students. She has been a member of the organizing committee of different national and international congresses, of the executive council of the "Spanish Association of Vacuum and its Applications" (treasurer), independent expert of AENOR, etc. She has carried out teaching tasks at several Spanish universities and has actively participated in multiple scientific outreach activities (coordination of school visits to the ICMM, workshops, talks, Semana de la Ciencia, Festival de la Nanociencia y la Nanotecnología, Ciencia en el barrio, Día Internacional de la Mujer y la Niña en la Ciencia, Feria Madrid por la Ciencia, Finde Científico, etc.).
