We invite applications for a 2-year postdoctoral position in the Quantum Dynamics of Materials (QUDYMA) group at ICMM-CSIC (Madrid, Spain), under the supervision of Dr. Álvaro Jiménez Galán. The project lies at the interface of computational ultrafast physics and condensed-matter theory, focusing on strong-field and attosecond electron dynamics in solids.
The successful candidate will develop and apply theoretical and computational approaches to model ultrafast light–matter interaction in crystalline materials, including high-harmonic generation and sub-cycle carrier dynamics. The project involves close collaboration with leading experimental groups (ARCNL, Weizmann Institute, SLAC, LLE Rochester).
Candidate Profile
Applicants should hold a PhD in theoretical ultrafast physics, theoretical condensed-matter physics or electronic structure theory in solids. The ideal candidate will have experience with computational approaches such as semiconductor Bloch equations, density matrix methods, TDDFT, or Wannier-based techniques (e.g., Wannier90). Experience with Linux/Unix environments, shell scripting, and numerical code development is highly desirable. A strong interest in numerical tool development and collaborative research is essential.
Conditions
• Starting date: Ideally April 2026 (flexible until October 2026)
• Duration: 2 years
• Salary: ~ 42,000 € gross/year, including Spanish Social Security and public healthcare
• Location: ICMM-CSIC, Campus de Cantoblanco, Madrid, Spain
The position includes access to HPC facilities and funding for conference participation and research visits.
Application
Applications should include: cover letter, CV and contact information for two references, including the PhD supervisor.
Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
Please send applications with subject line: “QUDYMA Postdoc Position”.
Applications and informal inquiries should be sent to: alvaro.jimenez@csic.es
