The radiant life of Marie Curie

'The radiant life of Marie Curie' is a scientific outreach activity based on a theater play directed, written and performed by researchers from the Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Madrid (ICMM-CSIC). A theater play for all audiences showing an appealing and dynamic vision of science, looking for the promotion of scientific culture in the society and encouraging the scientific vocation among young people and particularly girls, besides facilitating school teaching through the access to educational contents of easy understanding.

Synopsis: We will tell you the fascinating story of Marie Sklodowska Curie: her childhood in Poland, her first years of research in Paris, the discovery of polonium and radium, her two (yes, two!) Nobel prizes and humanitarian contribution to the First World War, the adverse effects of radiactivity…

A selection of two scenes from the play were awarded with the first prize (ex aequo) at the international competition "Ciencia en Acción 2019" in the category "Puesta en escena" for the significance of the scientific, etic and human concepts disseminated by the play, for the competence of the actors/actresses during the interpretation of such eminent scientists, and for the clarity of the dramatic exhibition.

'The radiant life of Marie Curie', our amazing scientific outreach theater play, was performed on Friday the 20th of December (2019) at "Ciencia en Navidad", the most magical event of CSIC celebrated every year.

In addition, as part of the activities carried out on the occasion of 11 February, International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the play was performed in the ICMM auditorium for school audiences and, on the context of the Semana de la Ciencia e Innovación, the play was performed on Wednesdy the 13th of November (2019) in the auditorium of the Hospital Materno-Infantil 12 de Octubre.
