In 2005 Dr. Huttel created a new research line at the ICMM-CSIC for the gas-phase synthesis of nanoparticles using nanoparticle sources. Since then he has focused his activities in manufacturing and studying the fundamental properties of nanoparticles (1-15 nm diameter) with the aim of contributing to the basic knowledge in interparticle interactions & diffusion phenomena, magnetic and magneto-optical properties of nanoparticles and influence of the matrix in embedded nanoparticles. In 2017 he has edited the book Gas Phase Synthesis of Nanoparticles (Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH, April 2017, ISBN 978-3-527-34060-6).

He is co-author of 5 patents, 3 of them licensed and in exploitation and co-founder of 2 spin-off of the CSIC: Next-Tip SL and Nanostine SL. He has published more than 100 papers in international journal and participates as peer reviewer for more than 35 journals and he is member of 5 international journal editorial boards. Finally, he is active in outreach activities and as reviewer of national agencies (Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Greece, Spain, Uruguay).
