Marta Yanguas

Marta Yanguas Cariñena joined the ICMM last June as a PhD researcher in the Multiscale Materials Modelling Group. Describing herself as a "very social person", she had a clear goal of building a career in research since she finished university. Let's get to know her a little bit more.

What have you worked on so far?
Before joining ICMM, I worked as a teacher in an academy and at CDTI, a public business entity under the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, which promotes innovation and technological development in Spanish companies.

What will you work on? With whom?
I've been here for almost four months now, and I've been studying different magnetic systems. I'm part of the Multiscale Materials Modelling group, and my PhD supervisor is Unai Atxitia. My work focuses on expanding and optimizing the scientific code developed by the group to incorporate altermagnetic materials, both chiral and non-chiral, and performing atomistic spin dynamics simulations.

Why ICMM?
Since I finished university, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in research. I had the opportunity to come here, I already knew some people, and it was an easy decision.

And a personal touch: any hobbies?
I'm a very social person and I really enjoy spending time with different people and doing outdoor activities.
