His friends called him Ippo, but his full name is Stefano Ippolito. He's the new postdoctoral researcher of the 2D Foundry Group. Italian but coming from France, he arrived on last December -"right on time to enjoy the Xmas party!", he adds-. At the ICMM he will be working under the supervision of Andrés Castellanos-Gómez.
Where do you come from?
I am Italian and was born in the beautiful Siracusa, a city on the east cost of Sicily. Good food, good weather, great people. What else? Unfortunately, I left Sicily almost 10 years ago and moved to France, first, to pursue my PhD and then to the US for my first postdoc. Now I’m back to Europe and am very happy of living in Spain!
What have you worked on so far?
Thus far, my research activity focused on defect engineering strategies via molecular chemistry approaches for solution-processed semiconducting two-dimensional (2D) materials, mostly transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs).
What will you work on? With whom?
In the group of Andres Castellanos-Gomez I will work on a project called SKIN2DTRONICS, where the goal is the large-scale integration of soft and thin (skin-like) electronic devices on ultra-flexible substrates. These devices will be fabricated using 2D materials, that possess a wide-ranging portfolio of physicochemical properties.
Why ICMM?
In the wake of the recent and prestigious “Severo Ochoa” recognition, ICMM represents a truly research excellence in Europe. So, when I got the opportunity to join, I didn't think twice and jumped at the chance! Here, I have no doubt I will be able to keep running my research activity in the best possible conditions and alongside great scientists!
And a personal touch: any hobbies? What would you like to contribute to the institute?
I love America football (Go birds!) and soccer (Forza Milan!). As a true Italian, I love cooking and eating good food. Then, I couldn’t image my life with no music, I strum the electric guitar and enjoy listening to music, mostly rock and pop.
