Marcos Menéndez, new PhD student at the Phononic and Photonic group

Marcos Menéndez Díaz is a physics graduate who is joining the Materials Science Institute of Madrid (ICMM-CSIC) for his Ph.D. He is coming from The Oviedo University (Asturias, Spain) and will work alongside Pedro David García at the Phononic and Photonic Nanostructures group.

What have you worked on so far?

I've been working for a year and a half on a research project about vehicular communication antenna simulation and characterization.

What will you work on? With whom?

I'll work for my Ph.D. thesis based on optics and photonics, about light-confining nanocavities to enhance photon-phonon interactions. In addition, I'll explore its AI applications with Pedro David García.

Why ICMM?

I chose ICMM because of its financing facilities and being a leading center within the field of scientific research.

And a personal touch: any hobbies? What would you like to contribute to the institute?

I usually go to the gym, I like practicing sports, specifically, strength sports. Besides, I enjoy with philosophical and political readings.
