Esteban Zamora starts his PhD at 2dFoundry group

Esteban Zamora Amo joined the Material Science Institute of Madrid at the beginning of 2024 and now he is starting his PhD thesis at 2D Foundry group. He studied Material engineering at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) and afterward he did his Master's in Nanoscience and nanomolecular technology of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM). 

What have you worked on so far?

I have always worked on the fabrication of 2D materials specially centered on exfoliation of graphene and pyrite using the liquid phase exfoliation technique. 

What will you work on? With whom?

I will work under the supervision of Andrés Castellanos and Carmen Munuera. I will be centering my work around a new technique developed in the group for high-throughput mechanical exfoliation. This technique is very new and I believe it will have a very large impact on the future in the fabrication of 2D materials and nanotechnology. 

Why did you choose ICMM? I wanted to work with Andrés because of his relevance in the 2D world and also I wanted to be at the ICMM to labor on a placed fully centered on investigation.

 And a personal touch: any hobbies? What would you like to contribute to the institute?

I like to workout: going to the gym, padel, basketball, climbing, and running are the main sports I practice but I love sports in general. I also love to travel and see new places and cultures. I will contribute to this center with my work ethic, I am really excited with my topic and with the group that I and working with so I will try to make great advances on my investigation theme and contribute as much as possible to my group.
