Dr. Lidia Martínez researches low-dimensional advanced materials, focusing most of her activity on the study of nanoparticles, both their manufacture using gas aggregation sources and their characterization using various techniques such as X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS) or atomic force microscopy (AFM). She has made various technological developments to improve the technique of manufacturing nanoparticles using gas aggregation sources. In addition to fundamental studies on the fabrication technique, she also studies the application of nanoparticles in various fields such as nanomedicine, energy, catalysis, sensor fabrication and in the formation of cosmic dust analogues.

She is the author of more than 60 scientific articles and 4 book chapters. She is co-inventor of 5 patents, three of which are licensed and in exploitation. She is co-founder of two spin-offs of the CSIC, Next-Tip, in which she was working to transfer technology, and Nanostine, a spin-off from the FGCSIC COMTE-ETB program that is in the ESA-BIC incubator of the Comunidad de Madrid.
