Graduated in Theoretical Physics at the UAM (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid), and PhD in Physics by the UAM. She developed her PhD thesis at ICMM, in a combined experimental and theoretical work applying LEED (Low Energy Electron Diffraction) to the identification of new surface alloys. During her postdoctoral stays at the synchrotron LURE (Orsay, Francia) and Vienna Technical University she started simulations of nanostructured materials based on DFT (Density Funstional Theory). Expertise in the application of DFT to low dimensional magnetic systems, including interactions based on the spin-orbit coupling. Among her research interests and contributions, we highlight the interplay between electronic correlations and magnetism in low dimensional systems, the emergence of anomalous p magnetism, the development of multiscale magnetic models, and the novel physical scenario defined by complex magnetic interfaces. She is involved in the search of magnetic solutions for sustainable permanent magnets, and in the development of materials for spintronics and spinorbitronics.

She is also very active in training, outreach and equity. Director of specialized courses in materials science and gender equality in science. Founder of the ICMM Equality Commision and the network of CSIC equity commissions at the UAM campus. She has designed and coordinates the joint participation of CSIC+UAM centers in the European Researchers' Night since 2019, and the outreach activity Escape Road: in the search of the Nobel (and not) female scientists. Deputy Director of ICMM from 2018 to 2022.
